Teacher petrified after bodybuilder ex-boyfriend ‘stalked her in the gym for 10 months’

A TEACHER was left petrified after she was stalked in the gym for ten months by her bodybuilder ex-boyfriend, a court has heard.

Rebecca Cundall, 25, claimed Dale Moir verbally abused her as she completed workouts in a Total Fitness gym in Whitefield, Greater Manchester and that he threatened to show other members of the gym a pornographic picture of her.

The pair had met at the sports complex five years earlier and had been in a relationship, but following their break-up, Rebecca claimed the 27-year-old wouldn’t leave her alone as she turned up for training.

Moir is on trial at Manchester magistrates’ court accused of stalking Miss Cundall between March last year and January 2019, which he denies.

Even after switching gyms, she claimed that he followed her there and also set up fake Instagram profiles pretending to be gym members.

The father-of-one allegedly used fake profiles to post pictures and messages about Miss Cundall, contacting her ex-boyfriends and calling her “weird.”

One post from the fake Instagram accounts read: “I do still love you Beckie.”

After splitting up in March 2018, Rebecca claims that her stalking ordeal began.

Police were called after Miss Cundall, from Whitefield, Greater Manchester, spoke about her experiences with Moir to staff members at Total Fitness gym.

The court heard that staff at the gym said that the 25-year-old was “so upset” and was “stuttering and mumbling.”

After an inquiry, no trace of a sex picture was found in Moir’s possession.

I just want to be left alone by him. I am not fixated with him, I want him out of my life. I’m not able to move on with my life. What that guy put me through, I want a restraining order. I don’t want him to contact me or come near me

At Manchester magistrates court, Miss Cundall said: “The guy is always there and he is always going to be there.

“I can’t live my life and I can’t have new relationships. People don’t want to speak to me, they say: “I don’t want to deal with that”. I’m in fear, I am constantly looking over my shoulder. I thank God I have moved house. The guy is good at stalking”.

Explaining the extent of the stalking, she told the JPs:  “I was doing my workout and Dale tried to interact with me. I told him it was over and that I didn’t want to speak to him but he kept walking over and taking my chalk that I was using for my session.

“He then picked up my stuff and my chalk, including my headphones, threw it in the bin and then he walked off. On the next occasion when I was training, he wept walking over to me and was showing me a picture on his phone.

“I couldn’t make out what it was as it was so quick but he was telling me it was a sexual picture of me. I said: ‘How did you get that?’ but he was threatening to show people.

“He just kept walking over and saying he was going to show people and then walked off whilst I was trying to train in the gym. I filled up my water bottle and I could see him at the bottom of the stairs with some people.

“I could see him showing the people his phone and they were all laughing. My friend was meeting me in the gym and I asked her to meet me as I was scared as I knew he could turn up when I was there. But Dale waited at reception for me to finish and followed me and he was shouting that he was going to show people this picture.’

CONSTANT FEAR

“I would wait until he left the gym as I parked my car elsewhere and didn’t want him to know where I parked. When I was in the gym. he came in and was verbally abusing me and following me around. ‘He called me a ‘spotty bitch’ and called me a ‘slag’ and made a comment about my eyebrows that they looked like slugs.

“He was following me most of the time and kept shouting stuff across the gym and swearing at me whilst other members were there. He then followed me outside and continued to verbally abuse me. At one time I was meeting my mum who had just been for a massage opposite the gym and when I was ringing her to say where I was, she could hear him in the background shouting.

“I messaged his Dad asking him to tell his son to leave me alone but he kept following me and I would always ring my friend when I was coming out of the gym – I was scared. On social media he was posting stuff about me, he was messaging people I know, including a couple of my exes and was telling them I’m weird and that I stalk him.

“I went to a new gym and started working out there and Dale got wind of it and came in and spoke to the assistant manager. I was scared of what he was going to do, he was following me everywhere I went.

STALKER NIGHTMARE

“I just want to be left alone by him. I am not fixated with him, I want him out of my life. I’m not able to move on with my life. What that guy put me through, I want a restraining order. I don’t want him to contact me or come near me”.

Aaron Nevins a manager at Total Fitness said: ”Rebecca contacted me and sounded worried and distressed and told me about a confrontation between Dale and herself.

“She said she was on the rower when Dale came across and said something towards her and then started shouting abuse at her in front of other gym members. She said she was embarrassed and upset and I could tell as she was stuttering on the phone and mumbling. She just apologised and was in shock so I told her to calm down.

“We had a meeting and I told her if she was uncomfortable she needs to not retaliate and all of the managers were aware of the situation.

“I told her to tell them what was happening and then report it to the police. One time I was doing regular checks on the gym floor and Dale was walking around shouting abuse. She was on the squat rack and he was on the free weights.

“The other times I noticed him getting to the gym at the same time as Rebecca and leaving at the same time as when she was leaving. When we had our meeting, we came out of the office and he was stood in the foyer opposite.

“He noticed she was in the office as she came out. I saw him follow her on at least four or five occasions whilst I was on shift. I believe Rebecca is a teacher and fits her workouts around work.”

Moir, from Whitefield who works for a security company, denies stalking between March last year and January 2019. In an interview with police, he denied deliberately attending the gym at the same time as Miss Cundall and insisted he had no sexual photograph of her.

He admitted calling her a “slag” but denied making fake Instagram profiles. The trial was adjourned until later this month.
