DANNY DRINKWATER is set to pass the £10million mark in career earnings with Chelsea – despite not playing a single Premier League match last season.
After his cameo sub appearance in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City in August, the £35m spent the WHOLE season on the sidelines.
Frozen out by then boss Maurizio Sarri, the England midfielder could only hit the headlines OFF the pitch.
He crashed his luxury car in April and was convicted of drink-driving.
Drinkwater, reportedly on £100,000-a-week after leaving the 2016 English champions Leicester for Stamford Bridge, has made just 12 Premier League appearances for the Blues since his 2017 signing.
Chelsea were trying to offload him on loan last summer, with West Ham and Everton both said to be interested.
But a deal could not be pushed through.
INVESTMENT WILL SPIRAL TO £50 MARK
If he stays for 2019/20, add in the transfer fee and owner Roman Abramovich’s investment will spiral towards the £50m mark by the end of next season.
However, Drinkwater could start to make an impact at the West Londoners now Frank Lampard is boss.
The Blues have been hit with a transfer ban and Lamps has indicated it will be a fresh chance for all players sidelined by Sarri, named Juventus boss last month.
When he signed for Chelsea, Drinkwater said: “It has been a long journey to get here but I am very happy and am looking forward to helping the club win more trophies.”
The England man formed a brilliant midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante as 500-1 outsiders Leicester shocked the world by winning the Premier League crown under Claudio Ranieri.
