FORTNITE’S Summer event is almost over, and it’s finishing with a bang.
The penultimate challenge to be revealed was to “search the tiny rubber ducky in the Summertime Splashdown loading screen”.
This might seem simple enough, but was actually anything but.
The bottom-left corner of the image features four surfboards with grid references in – H9, I9, H10 and I10.
While four squares may seem like a huge area to search, it actually refers to the single point where all four squares meet on the map.
There you can find a bathtub atop a pile of rubble – and inside you’ll find the diminutive ersatz waterfowl.
Easy, right? No.
To get credit for finding the elusive anatine, you need to click on it after finding it – at which point it vanishes for everyone.
This means that if you’re not the first person to find the ablutory accessory, you’re stuffed and need to try again next round.
It seems that this functionality isn’t intended, though, with Epic Games admitting over Twitter that the challenge is “harder to complete than we intended”.
It seems that a fix for it is also more challenging than you might think, with Epic only able to promise one “in a couple of days”.
The final challenge in the 14 days of Summer event is due later on today, and players will have a few more days to mop up any uncompleted challenges and reap all the available rewards.
While many players had been complaining about the level of difficulty, others are now moaning about it being made easier.
Some demanded an extra prize for managing to complete it in the more-difficult state, while some just wailed incoherently.
Is it dedication, or addiction?
GAMING addiction is a hot topic, and many dedicated gamers might be worried that they’re crossing the line.
But how can you tell if you’re playing too much, and determine if you should think about cutting down?
The World Health Organistation has revealed nine criteria for gaming disorder – if five or more apply to you, you may be officially an addict.
- preoccupation with games
- withdrawal symptoms when gaming is taken away
- tolerance, resulting in the need to spend increasing amounts of time engaged in games
- unsuccessful attempts to control participation in games
- loss of interest in previous hobbies and entertainment as a result of, and with the exception of, games
- continued excessive use of games despite knowledge of psychosocial problems
- deceiving family members, therapists, or others regarding the amount of gaming
- use of games to escape or relieve negative moods
- jeopardizing or losing a significant relationship, job, or education or career opportunity because of participation in games.
